Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament - Feast day, May 13

The greatest sorrow ever felt was the sorrow of Mary at the sight of Jesus crucified. The greatest joy ever experienced would be the joy of Mary at the sight of Jesus glorified at the very place she stood weeping. No one wants to see Jesus more loved and Adored than His Mother Mary, who at the foot of the cross, saw Him so rejected. His suffering on the cross is a picture of a broken Heart from loving so much—and not being loved in return—as the Passion of Christ is His pain of being so unloved and unwanted. “We have no king”, the people shouted, as they cruelly genuflected in mock adoration. What better place to have Perpetual Adoration than in this place of ultimate humiliation, where man dethroned Him in an act of bitter shame? What better place on earth to proclaim Him King by giving Him the glory due His name? Instead of a sign above His head, that had in writing the charge against Him, saying His Kingdom was unaccepted—we will be a living sign to all of His Presence, power, and Kingship. In the Blessed Sacrament Christ is no longer crowned with thorns, but much worse, with indifference, as He is often ignored and treated as if He is not there. Yet, He is really there, where He waits for each of us with open arms and repeats His timeless appeal: “Could you not watch one hour with me?” (Mt 26:40) Where once the Father seemingly abandoned Him, now the Father eagerly surrounds Him, as He draws everyone to come to Him. For only through Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration do we give Him the honor He deserves and the glory due His Name, as with our gratitude and love we exclaim: “O King of Nations who would dare refuse You honor or the glory due Your Name. Since You alone are holy, all men shall come and Adore You.” (Rev 15:4) By testifying to the Light we will turn the terrible hour of darkness, the hour of universal betrayal, into a radiant witness to the world. For our sake He opened His arms on the cross. For our sake we embrace His love as with each Holy Hour of prayer in His Presence we profess: “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive unceasing Adoration for all He has done for our salvation.” (Rev 5:12) When we proclaim Jesus King, by giving Him the glory due His name, He will claim His Kingdom. Then there will be no more mourning, crying out, or pain, as God will wipe away every tear from the face of all mankind, because the tears of Mary will be no more. For if man’s hatred of Jesus brought about an unending stream of tears from Mary, then only the unceasing love of man through Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration will be the cause of her everlasting delight. If man’s hatred of Jesus broke Mary’s heart, like the earth that split apart, so will man’s love of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament mend His broken Heart and, thus, change her sorrow into unspeakable gladness. Then all creation itself will cease to cry out and mourn with her and, instead, will rejoice with Mary in a new heaven and a new earth created by Jesus. In His unsurpassing joy of being loved by man He will fulfill His promise “See, I make all things new.” (Rev 21:5) “Moreover, on Calvary, men had become her children; she loved them with all the tenderness of a mother, and wanted their sovereign good as much as her own. That is why she was so eager to make Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament known to all, to enkindle all hearts with His love, to see them all bound and chained at His loving service, to group them into a Eucharistic Guard of Honor, a court of faithful and devoted adorers. To obtain that grace, Mary carried out a perpetual mission of prayer and of penance in the presence of the Most Holy and Adorable Eucharist, pleading for the salvation of a world redeemed by Divine Blood and, in her boundless zeal, including the needs of the faithful of every age and place who would ever share in the heritage of the Divine Eucharist.” (St. Peter Julian Eymard) When Our Lady appeared to the children at Fatima, on May 13, 1917, she asked them to pray with her: “O Most Holy Trinity, I adore Thee! My God, my God, I love Thee in the Most Blessed Sacrament!” Through the intercession of Mary, there is Perpetual Adoration in Fatima today. On May 13, 2000 Pope John Paul II will declare Bl. Francisco and Bl. Jacinta Saints in Fatima. They will be the youngest Saints in the history of the Church.
