THE SACRED EUCHARISTIC HEART OF JESUS

The Blessed Sacrament is the living heart of each of our churches.

(Pope Paul VI)

Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament loves us too much to leave us,

;Behold I am with you always until the end of the world. (Mt 28:20)

Our Blessed Lord Himself asked for two feast days to be dedicated exclusively to His Bodily presence in The Holy Eucharist, Corpus Christi and The Sacred Heart! Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, in France, several times during the 17th century. The most significant apparitions took place during exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, one during the octave of Corpus Christi. He asked that the feast of His Sacred Heart be celebrated on the First Friday after Corpus Christi. Jesus did this to impress upon us that He is Really, Truly and Personally Present in The Blessed Sacrament His Sacred Eucharistic Heart Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity!

During the course of these apparitions to St. Margaret Mary, Jesus asked us to receive Him frequently in Holy Communion. In addition, He asked to be honored and adored in weekly Holy Hours of prayer in the Blessed Sacrament! Jesus is asking for our thanks, our reparation, and our consolation. Our dear Savior loves us and asks us, just as He asked his first apostles during His agony in the garden of Gethsemani, Could you not watch one hour with me? (Mt 26:40) Jesus made many promises to St. Margaret Mary for those who would fulfill His longing:

I promise that my heart will open so as to pour out in abundance the riches of its Divine Love on those who pay it this honor and who try to have such honor paid to it by others.

O most sacred, most loving heart of Jesus, thou art concealed in the Holy Eucharist, and thou beatest for us still.... Thou art the heart of the Most High made man.... Thy Sacred Heart is the instrument and organ of Thy love. It did beat for us. It yearned for us. It ached for our salvation. It was on fire through zeal, that the glory of God might be manifested in and by us.... In worshiping thee I worship my incarnate God, my Emmanuel. (John Henry Cardinal Newman)

We come here to meet the Heart of Jesus pierced for us, from which water and blood gush. It is the redeeming love, which is at the origin of salvation, of our salvation, which is at the origin of the Church. Now still, today, the living Christ loves us and presents his heart to us as the source of our redemption... We are called not only to meditate and contemplate on this mystery of Christ's love; we are called to take part in it. It is the mystery of the Holy Eucharist, the center of our faith, the center of our worship of Christ's merciful love manifested in his Sacred Heart, a mystery which is adored here night and day. In the Holy Eucharistthis is also the meaning of perpetual adorationwe enter the movement of love from which all interior progress and all apostolic efficacy springs. (From Our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II's address at the Basilica of Montmartre in 1980, where he spoke of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament Who has been perpetually adored there for more than one hundred years)

Devotion to the Sacred Heart ... honors first with adoration and public worship the Heart of flesh of Jesus Christ, and secondly the infinite love with which this Heart has burned for us since its creation, and with which it is still consumed in the Sacrament of our altars. (St. Peter Julian Eymard)

Every time I hear anyone speak of the Sacred Heart of Jesus or of the Blessed Sacrament I feel an indescribable joy. It is as if a wave of precious memories, sweet affections and joyful hopes swept over my poor person, making me tremble with happiness and filling my soul with tenderness. These are loving appeals from Jesus who wants me wholeheartedly there, at the source of all goodness, his Sacred Heart, throbbing mysteriously behind the Eucharistic veils... I love to repeat today 'Sweet Heart of my Jesus, make me love You more and more.' (Pope John XXIII)
