September 2004

"Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and enter into his glory?" (Lk 24:26).

"Before . . . Christ glorified and enthroned, let everyone fall to their knees in adoration. A powerful profession of faith is raised not only from within the whole horizon of human history, but also from heaven and from hell (cf. Philippians 2:10): 'Jesus Christ is Lord' (verse 11). 'We see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone'" (Hebrews 2:9) (Pope John Paul II, August 18, 2004).

"The Church constantly draws her life from the redeeming sacrifice; she approaches it not only through faith-filled remembrance, but also through a real contact, since this sacrifice is made present ever anew . . . . The Eucharist thus applies to men and women today the reconciliation won once for all by Christ for mankind in every age" (12). "From the perpetuation of the sacrifice of the Cross and her communion with the body and blood of Christ in the Eucharist, the Church draws the spiritual power needed to carry out her mission. The Eucharist thus appears as both the source and the summit of all evangelization" (22). "The Eucharistic Sacrifice makes present not only the mystery of the Saviour's passion and death, but also the mystery of the resurrection which crowned his sacrifice. It is as the living and risen One that Christ can become in the Eucharist the 'bread of life' (Jn 6:35, 48), the 'living bread'" (Jn 6:51) (14). "The worship of the Eucharist outside of the Mass is of inestimable value for the life of the Church" (25). (Excerpts from Ecclesia de Eucharistia, Pope John Paul II).

"Sacrament of my God, my Jesus, my life and my love, how I love to be with Thee. Ah, how necessary art Thou to my heart! How sweet and tender are the sentiments Thou excitest in my soul! God of love, divine object of all earthly happiness, what peace I enjoy when near Thee! What holy joy, what transports even amidst the troubles and sorrows of my offenses. Before Thee the universe is in a profound silence! Before Thee all things are as nothing to me; Thou alone, O my Jesus, art all to me." (St. Catherine of Genoa)

Mary, Joy of all who sorrow: "Truly she was the Mother of Sorrows. She suffered then as no other mother has suffered. See in her, Jesus, so many mothers, so many wives, so many souls who weep alone before Your tabernacle because of the absence of their loved ones. Yes, they come alone because misfortune, and, alas, often the loss of faith, have drawn far from home and from Your Church, a son, a brother or a husband . . . . Jesus, gentle Nazarene, remember the sorrows of Mary at the moment of Your farewell on Holy Thursday. Do not forget that as she embraced You for the last time Your Mother must have begged You to watch with a special tenderness over afflicted mothers and over all their absent ones! . . . We acclaim the love of Your Heart which beats for us in the Host!" (Fr. Mateo Crawley-Boevey).

Bl. Mother Teresa of Calcutta (1910-1997), Missionary, Sister, Macedonia--died Sept. 5 "When you look at the crucifix, you understand how much Jesus loved you. When you look at the Sacred Host you understand how much Jesus loves you now." Mother Teresa attributed the success of her many charitable works ministering to the destitute, sick and dying, and those of her Sisters, to their daily Holy Hour of prayer with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary--Sept. 8 "Mary is the full-of-grace woman, chosen and prepared by God to bear and bring up his Son, the world's Saviour . . . . The Mother of the Eucharist ardently desires to share its graces with us from her privileged position next to her Son's tabernacle-throne" (Mary and the Eucharist).

St. John Chrysostom (344-407), Bishop & Church Doctor, Syria--September 13 Called "the Golden Mouth" for his fervent preaching and reform of the faithful and the clergy, St. John wrote of the Eucharist: "What excuse shall we have, or how shall we obtain pardon, if we consider it too much to go to Jesus, who descended from Heaven for our sake? Those foreign pagan kings hastened thither from Persia to see Him who lay in the manger; and thou, O Christian, canst thou not spare a few moments to enjoy this heavenly spectacle?"

The Exaltation of the Holy Cross--September 14 Behold the wood of the Cross, on which has hung our salvation: come, let us adore! "They conquered him [satan] by the blood of the Lamb [which Jesus shed on the Cross and gives to us in the Holy Eucharist], and by the word of their testimony" (Rev 12: 11).

Our Lady of Sorrows--September 15: Behold your Mother! (Jn 19:27). "Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, reign over the afflicted; become their consolation through this consecrated Bread, the gift of the Queen of Sorrows" (Fr. Mateo Crawley-Boevey).

St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (1887-1968), Priest, Stigmatist, Mystic, Italy--Sept. 23 The patron of Eucharistic adorers, St. Padre Pio was passionately in love with the Holy Eucharist. He wrote: "Let me recognize you as your disciples did at the breaking of the bread, so that the eucharistic Communion [may] be the light which disperses the darkness, the force which sustains me, the unique joy of my heart." "In the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist, in this sacrament of love, we have true life, a blessed life, and true happiness." "Let us spend our whole lives giving thanks to the divine Father who, in an excess of love for us, sent His only begotten Son and our most sweet Lover. Protected, covered and defended by the Presence of this dear Lord, let us stand before Him [in the Holy Eucharist] and pray with the humility of the creature and the confidence and freedom of the child."

Feast of Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, Saints--September 29 In the presence of the angels, let us praise our God! Those who, especially in the silent hours of the night, gather together in adoration with the Angels and render to the Lamb, who was immolated, the thanksgiving due to Him, draw abundantly for themselves and for all the Church waters from the fountains of the Savior (Pius XII).

All Holy Angels pray for the spread of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Worldwide!!!
