Our Lord Jesus Christ instituted the Holy Eucharist nineteen hundred years ago; and I hold that, on that memorable occasion, the thought of you, dearEucharistic souls, brought sweet consolation to His most Sacred Heart.This is what we should do during our adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.Whether it is in the daytime or at night, the hour of adoration shouldreproduce the beautiful scene of the Cenacle: John reclining at Jesus’ bosom. The Eucharistic soul has two places of honor, then: at the foot of the crossand on the bosom of Jesus. One demands the other; both complement each other.They must remain loyal to Jesus, loyal to their vocation, loyal to theirspecial mission, so that the divine Victim, looking down from the Sacred Hostin the monstrance, as He looked down from the cross, might always see, at Hisfeet, His chosen souls, of whom it may be said as it was of John “They werestanding by the cross.” Souls dedicated to perpetual adoration, who during the hours spent before theSacred Host would like to imitate at least from afar the fervor of those whoadore in heaven, be neither surprised nor scandalized by those weaknesses:fatigue, drowsiness, dryness of spirit, and that “I can’t” feeling. If youare tempted to see in it all a sign of deficient love, you are mistaken.Much to the contrary, your displeasure at them and your battle against them are proofs of love, because they are acts of sacrifice; and suffering is theproof and nourishment of love. Christ’s heart is deeply touched by the sight of you adoring Him, not in joyas He is adored in heaven, but in pain, as only on earth He can be adored.And you, in your turn, must feel deeply consoled by the thought that you adore Him at the price of your health, strength, and life.(The Holy Eucharist, Jose Guadalupe Trevino)

When we come to the Eucharist, we come to the Resurrection, for this is where our Risen Savior dwells! When we come before Our Eucharistic Lord in Adoration He showers us with an outpouring of His healing love, mercy and grace.We must run to Him and bring our loved ones and everyone with us. Each and every Holy Hour of Adoration we make will shorten the time until He will bring about a new day, the resurrection of His people, His church, and His world! He is “the Lamb on the throne” who shepherds us, He is the source of "life-giving water" who "will wipe every tear" from our eyes(Rev 7:17).Through our Eucharistic Adoration we witness to His resurrection and tell the world: “He is risen ... He is here!”(Lk 24:34).“My strength and my courage is the Lord and He has been my Savior!” (Is 12:2).

Eucharistic Miracle: Faverney, Burgundy, France--Pentecost Sunday 1608 (Notre Dame de la Blanche)

It was a glorious feast of the town, and Dom Garnier had erected an especially magnificent repository for the Blessed Sacrament. At 3:00 a.m. of the feast, Dom Garnier returned to the Church and saw a glow around the chapel in which the Blessed Sacrament was exposed. Fearing the Church was on fire, he ran to the nearby Benedictine monastery for help. Accompanied by several monks, they returned to the Church and opened the door to witness a miracle. The Monstrance was suspended in mid-air! The stone, which was previously underneath the Monstrance, lay in three fragments on the floor, surrounded by the broken remains of the altar and candles. The Monks, who had fallen away in belief and practice, fell to their knees in adoration of the Sacred Host, Who they recognized as their Lord and Savior. This miracle inspired many conversions of those who had fallen away from Jesus and was declared valid by the Bishop within a few months.

St. John Baptist de la Salle, Priest, Brothers of the Christian Schools Founder, France (1651-1719) —April 7

In meditating on the Real Presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, St. John said to reflect: “God of love, set me aflame with love for you and for my neighbour.” St. John is the patron saint of teachers and brought about educational reform. St. John, intercede for teachers and students, that they may be guided by Jesus Eucharistic! Please intercede for their wisdom and protection in these difficult times.

“‘How can this be?’‘The Holy Spirit will come down upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you’ (Lk. 1:34-35). The angel explained to Mary how she was to become the mother of God. The power of God was manifested at the annunciation and Jesus came into this world (as a tiny embryo) inside the womb of His virgin mother. Likewise a tiny piece ofbread, The Host, becomes the body of Jesus—by the power of the Holy Spirit—every time the Priest prays the words of consecration at every Catholic Mass. St. Bernadette, Lourdes Visionary and Nun, France (1844-1879)—April 16 “Take advantage of Our Lord’s presence to ask Him for all kinds of graces.”(St. Bernadette)

St. Gianna Beretta Molla, Wife, Mother, Doctor, Italy (1922-1962)—April 28

St. Gianna was a physician, wife, mother, and martyr, from a large family with devout parents. From age 5, when she was allowed to receive her First Communion, Gianna attended daily Mass.At 12, she became involved in Catholic Action, which was centered on Eucharistic devotion.Receiving and adoring the Blessed Sacrament, St. Gianna was energized to care for the poor, sick, and lonely and help in the evangelization of the young, to whom she spoke of purity.Gianna was a holy physician with a great love of Jesus, Mary, and children.When Gianna was pregnant with her 4^th child, she had fibrous tumors in her ovary and her Doctor wanted to have an abortion.Gianna refused, giving her unborn baby life. Gianna gave birth to a healthy daughter, and died soon after.

St. Louis Marie de Montfort, Priest, Missionary, France (1673-1716)—April 28

“Faithful child of the Blessed Sacrament, what profit, what wealth, what pleasure is yours kneeling at the feet of the generous and inestimable Lord of lords.Be brave, takecourage, enrich yourself and rejoice as you burn yourself out each day like a lamp.The more you give of yourself, the more God will give of Himself to you!”(From a letter to his sister, Louise, a Benedictine of the Blessed Sacrament)

St. Peter Chanel, Priest, Martyr, & Missionary, France (1803-1841)—April 28

St. Peter drew strength from the Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady to help transform a neglected post-Revolution country parish into one of fervent faith. When the Marist order formed, he joined and was eventually sent to minister to the people of Oceania. St. Peter administered the Sacraments, and helped attract many conversions as well as future missionaries. He was martyred by enemies of the faith.

St. Pius V, Pope (d. 1572), Italy—April 30 When forces sought to destroy Christianity in Europe, in the Battle of Lepanto, Pope Pius V instructed all Churches to hold Forty Hours Devotions (Adoration) and pray the Rosary. They were victorious, and the Catholic faith was saved and preserved byprayer before our Lord in the Holy Eucharist and Our Blessed Lady’s intercession!

St. Damien Joseph of Molokai, Apostle to the Lepers, Belgium (1840-1889)—May 10

A member of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, which is centered on the Holy Eucharist and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, St. Damien brought the love of Jesus in the Sacred Host to the forgotten suffering lepers in Molokai, Hawaii, where he began Perpetual Adoration and spent his life for the lepers.

Mother’s Day—May 13

When May 13 does not fall on a Sunday, we celebrate the feasts of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Fatima. Though Jesus gave everything possible for us and to us He gave us an added comforter and consoler, His own Mother Mary, to be our Mother! While on earth Our Blessed Mother spent most of her days and nights in adoration of her Son in the Eucharist, interceding for the Church. Our heavenly Mother is our advocate, constantly praying for us. When we adore her Son she is there praying with us. “You are the Mother of the Eucharist because you are the mother of grace. You, more than all others after your Son, were aware of this sacrament hidden from the ages.”(John Gerson)

“O Virgin Immaculate, while the Apostles went to preach the Gospel, thou didst remain close to the tabernacle, supplicating for them the goodness of the Savior, and thy prayer obtained for them the grace to convert the world! Teach us to pray, above all, to pray near the tabernacle, where Jesus wills to abide continually in order to hear our petitions. Teach us to pray for the extension of the Eucharistic Kingdom, for the salvation of the whole world, for the exaltation of the Holy Church, and most especially for the sanctification of the clergy and the conversion of sinners.”(St. Peter Julian Eymard)

Pentecost—May 20

An Act of Oblation to the Holy Spirit: ON MY KNEES before the great cloud of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself body and soul to Thee, eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of Thy purity, the unerring keenness of Thy justice and the might of Thy love. Thou art the strength and light of my soul. In Thee I live and move and have my being. “Not only is the entire history of salvation present in the Eucharist, but also the Trinity which is its author. The Father so loved the world that he gave his Only-begotten Son to save it; the Son so loved men as to give up his life for them; Father and Son willed to unite men so intimately to themselves that they infused the Holy Spirit in them, so that their own life would dwell in their hearts” (Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa).

St. Rita of Cascia, Wife, Mother, Nun, Ptn. of Impossible Cases, Italy(1381-1457)—May 22 After the tragic death of her husband and sons, Rita became an Augustinian nun and had a deep devotion to the passion of Christ and the Holy Eucharist. She spent many hours in Eucharistic Adoration daily and sometimes lived on Holy Communion alone. She was a stigmatist who suffered a wound of Christ on her forehead.

The Visitation—May 31

“Our best life, all our spiritual life, is nothing but a succession of Visitations, Visitations from Mary bringing Jesus with her. But nowhere is the similitude so faithful as it is in the Blessed Sacrament. How often when we come near to the tabernacle, a secret fire comes forth, and our hearts burn within us without apparent cause. Cares fall off, tears are dried, doubts melt away, temptations are paralyzed, anxieties are allayed, our soul is bathed in quiet sudden jubilee. Joy, exultation, praise, delight, and the sense of forgiveness, the spirit of worship, these are exactly the fruits produced within us, as they were produced in [John] the Baptist’s soul” (Fr. Faber).

Corpus Christi, The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ—June 3: Adore Jesus in the Holy Eucharist!

“What is the [Eucharistic Adoration] Visit? It is the meeting of our soul and of all our being with Jesus. It is the creature meeting his Creator;/The disciple before the Divine Master; The patient with the Doctor of souls;/The poor one appealing to the rich One; The thirsty one drinking at the Font;/The weak one presenting himself to the Almighty; The tempted one seeking a sure Refuge;/The blind one searching for the Light; The friend who goes to the True Friend;/The lost sheep sought by the divine Shepherd; The heart led astray who finds the Way;/The foolish one who finds Wisdom; The bride who finds the Spouse of the soul;/The nothing who finds the All; The afflicted who finds the Consoler;/The youth who finds life’s meaning; It is the shepherds at the manger, Magdalene at the house of Simon, Nicodemus who arrives by night. It is the holy conversations of the Samaritan, of Zacchaeus, of Philip and of all the apostles with Jesus, especially during the last week of his earthly life and after the resurrection. The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus—June 8

“Behold this Heart which so much loved men, that it spared nothing, even to exhausting Itself, in order to give them testimony of Its love.” (words of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque when He appeared to her before the Blessed Sacrament).As Jesus spoke, flames burst from His Heart symbolizing His burning love for us and His great desire that we love Him. Jesus promised to extend great love and mercy to those who adore and honor Him in the Holy Eucharist!

On adoring the Blessed Sacrament, Pope John Paul II writes,“It is invaluable to converse with Christ and, leaning against Jesus breast like his beloved disciple, we can feel the infinite love of his Heart.We learn to know more deeply the One who gave himself totally, in the different mysteries of his divine and human life, so that we may become disciples and in turnenter into this great act of giving, for the glory of God and the salvation of the world.” (1996 Corpus Christi letter) Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, have mercy on us!

Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary—June 9

“No invocation responds better to the immense desire of my Eucharistic Heart to reign in souls than: Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, may your kingdom come through the Immaculate Heart of Mary” (Words of Jesus to Bl. Dina Belanger). “Our Lady of the Eucharistic Heart, I beg you to give Jesus to souls!” (Bl. Dina Belanger).

St. Anthony of Padua, Doctor of the Church, Patron of the Poor, Italy (1195-1231)—June 13 “Delight of the Blessed Virgin, Pray for us. Most chaste youth, Pray for us …Desirous of the salvation of souls, Pray for us. Perpetual adorer of the Holy Eucharist, Pray for us” (Litany).

Sts. John Fisher (1469-1535) & Thomas More, England (1478-1535), Martyrs—June 22 Sts. John Fisher and Thomas More gave their lives in witness to Christ and the Catholic Church. They shared a deep devotion to the Holy Eucharist, at Mass and Adoration, defended marriage and the truth in their words and example.

Sts. Peter and Paul—June 29 Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen explains, “When I stand up to talk, people listen to me; they will follow what I have to say. Is it any power of mine? Of course not. St. Paul says, ‘What have you that you have not received and you who have received, why do you glory as if you had not?’ But the secret of my power is that I have never in fifty-five years missed spending an hour in the presence of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. That’s where the power comes from. That’s where sermons are born. That’s where every good thought is conceived.”
